Sources & Methodology

We aggregate data from a handful of official and public sources into one place, so it's easier to see the full picture for any federal MP or Senator. We don't add commentary or opinion of our own. Everything you see here is sourced data, presented as factually as we can manage. A small number of figures, such as attendance percentile rankings and total salary, are calculated by this site from underlying source data rather than taken as a single published figure from any one source.

• Australian Parliament House (APH) - official parliamentary records, including member details, party and electorate information, and member photos, used under a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence. aph.gov.au
• TheyVoteForYou - voting record data for divisions in the House of Representatives and Senate. theyvoteforyou.org.au
• Wikipedia and Wikidata - biographical details. en.wikipedia.org
• Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority (IPEA) - published expense records for parliamentarians.
• Remuneration Tribunal - base salary and office holder loading determinations used to calculate parliamentary salaries. remtribunal.gov.au
• Postcode and electorate data - sourced from the Australian Electoral Commission, via a dataset maintained by OpenAustralia.
• Parliamentary Pass Register - an independent public register of disclosed parliamentary pass holders, filling the gap until the federal government's own official register (mandated from 1 July 2026) is published on aph.gov.au. passregister.com.au
• Directory of Australian Government - the official Cabinet ministry list, used to identify current government ministers. directory.gov.au
• Australian Parliament House Shadow Ministry list - the official published shadow ministry, used to identify current shadow ministers. aph.gov.au

Records from each source are matched against a single list of current and former parliamentarians, mainly by name and electorate, with Wikidata used to help link people across sources. Where a match can't be made confidently, the record is left out rather than guessed at. Even so, mismatches and gaps can happen, particularly for members with common names or who have recently changed electorates or parties.

While every effort is taken to keep this data accurate, current, and sourced from official records, House of Cards Australia makes no warranty, express or implied, as to its accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any particular purpose. Data may be out of date, incomplete, or contain errors introduced during collection or matching. Nothing on this site should be relied on as a definitive or legal record. For anything that matters, please check the original source directly.
