Base salary is set by the Remuneration Tribunal for every federal MP and Senator equally. It does not include electorate allowance, superannuation, travel, or staffing budget — those fund the running of an office, not personal pay.

Some members earn more because they hold an additional office (Prime Minister, a ministerial portfolio, Speaker, a party whip role, etc.) — that extra amount is a percentage loading on top of the same base salary, set out in the same Determination.
